How to Plan Your Visit to the Lower Town Arts District

The Lower Town Arts District is a unique retail area because it is located in a neighborhood and does not consist of storefront businesses like your typical downtown area.  The Lower Town Arts District is spread out over 20 city blocks with sidewalks, so it is a great experience to walk around the district.

This historic neighborhood consists of galleries and studios, homes with galleries/businesses attached, some store front galleries/businesses, one coffeeshop (Etcetera), and artist studios. Some of the studios are "Open by Appointment" so you need to call to visit these spaces.
Here are some of our recommendations to make your visit a pleasant one:
  • Download and print this LowerTown Arts District Map
  • Go to Paducah's Convention & Visitor's Bureau website and use their trip planning tools: http://www.paducah.travel

  • Bring comfortable walking shoes; happy feet make happy visitors!

  • Come with a sense of adventure, an open mind, and a "Treasure Hunt" approach to discovering our district.

  • Best days of the week to visit: Fridays and Saturdays.

  • Best day of the month to visit: Second Saturdays when most of our businesses are open until 8pm.

  • If you want to visit Private Artist Studios, please call ahead. All of the phone numbers are listed on the LowerTown Map.

  • If you can't find your way, be on the lookout for one of the LowerTown Arts
    District landmarks listed below:

  1. Look for the "OPEN" flags waving in front of our galleries and businesses.

  2. Visit the Texaco Station on the corner of Madison Street and N. 7th which has maps and information.

  3. Be on the lookout for the famous LowerTown 18 foot "Jonny Giraffe" Sculpture on the corner of Madison Street and N.6th at Mentor House Gallery, 332 N. 6th St.

  4. Visit Etcetera coffeehouse 320 N. 6th Street, which is OPEN seven days a week. This is THE Lower Town hangout, filled with artists and locals, and it is a very good placeto get directions.

  5. Stop and ask some one for directions. We are a very friendly neighborhood and would be glad to help!
